The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batters and Harshal Patel’s hat-trick helped their team to number three and with it they moved a step ahead to qualify for the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians (MI) batting collapsed after a good start by the openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock in the first six overs. RCB made a comeback in the second half with the help of Harshal Patel’s hat-trick and emerged victors by 54 runs.

RCB post 165/6, at least 25 runs short of par score

After losing the toss, RCB scored 165 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. The foundation was laid with the partnership of Virat Kohli and Kona Srikar Bharat of 68 runs for the second wicket after Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed without opening his account. It was followed by a partnership of 51 for the fourth wicket between Kohli and Glenn Maxwell.

Maxwell scored 56 runs from 37 balls with six fours and three sixes while on the other hand, Kohli scored 51 runs from 42 balls which included three fours and three sixes. Bharat also scored crucial 32 runs from 24 balls which included two fours and two sixes.

The Mumbai Indians bowling is said to be one of the best bowling line-ups in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 which comprises Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Adam Mline and Rahul Chahar. But on the given day, RCB batters Maxwell, Kohli and Bharat demolished the famed bowling line-up with their attacking approach.

All the Mumbai bowlers went expensive in today's match, but Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler who took the wickets of Devdutt Padikkal, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers.

MI flounder in the chase with the exception of Rohit Sharma

While chasing a target of 166 runs from 20 overs, the Mumbai openers started very well in the first six overs, but the top and middle-order failed to perform after the dismissal of both the openers.

Except Rohit and De Kock, no other player was able to go to double digits. Rohit Sharma scored 43 runs from 28 balls which included five fours and a six while on the other hand Quinton de Kock scored 24 runs from 23 balls which included four fours.

The pick of the bowlers for Royal Challengers Bangalore was Harshal Patel who scalped four wickets which included a hat-trick and he gave just 17 runs in his 3.1 overs spell. Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets and conceded only 11 runs with one maiden over. Glenn Maxwell with a spell of 4-0-23-2 and Mohammad Siraj with figures 3-0-15-1 also were amongst the wickets.
