Brief Scores: LSG 155/4 (Quinton de Kock 80, Krunal 19*, Kuldeep 2/31) beat DC 149/3 (Shaw 61, Pant 39*, Bishnoi 2/22) by six wickets

The 15th Match of TATA IPL 2022 saw the battle between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

LSG were coming off a sweet victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) just three days ago, whereas, Rishabh Pant-led DC came into this match with a loss against the other new entrant in the IPL, Gujarat Titans (GT).

LSG reach top of the points table with third win

Having won the toss, LSG captain KL Rahul had no second thoughts about bowling first as 12 out of the 21 matches played at this venue have been won by the team chasing the target. Lucknow went into this match with just one change, including all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham in place of Manish Pandey.

Delhi Capitals made three changes from their previous match. The much-anticipated players – David Warner and Anrich Nortje were back along with the Indian domestic superstar, Sarfaraz Khan who had a prolific Ranji Trophy season this year.

DC were off to a flyer with Prithvi Shaw dominating the LSG bowlers with a quickfire fifty. While David Warner who was back from the Pakistan tour, looked a bit rusty and took his time settling in not long before Ravi Bishnoi dismissed him with yet another googly. LSG were experimental in pulling things back from the kind of start DC got and managed to keep DC just under 150 in 20 overs.

LSG, who probably have the most steady opening combination went about their innings with a "business as usual" approach. While the required run rate was always under 8 which allowed the batters to take their time and play the shots.

After quick wickets of KL Rahul and Evin Lewis, Quinton made sure he didn't waste the start he had got and anchored the LSG innings. The match, however, went into the last over with some quick wickets but the new finisher in town, Ayushi Badoni held his nerves and ensured his team crossed the line with a brilliant six off the third ball of the last over to seal the game for LSG.

Ravi “Googly” Bishnoi

India’s U-19 star, the fast leg spin cum googly bowler Ravi Bishnoi, who went wicketless in the last match against SRH was in no mood to repeat the same in the match against DC. In his second over, he picked up the big scalp in the form of rusty-looking Warner (4 off 12) with a wide-angled googly.

The youngster didn’t stop there as he went on to castle the big West Indian, Rovman Powell with yet another fast googly. Powell was having a hard time reading him throughout his stay at the crease. Bishnoi troubled Sarfaraz and DC captain Pant with his variations and played a vital role with figures 2 for 22 in his quota of 4 overs in slowing the pace of Delhi innings and containing them under 150 runs.

The Prithvi “SHAWtime”

Pocket-sized dynamo Prithvi Shaw did what he is best known for. He bashed the bowlers in the powerplay left, right and centre. Prithvi who is known for his strong off-side play, played some beautiful shots including late cuts, drives and square cuts while scoring at a brisk pace along the way.

The “chota packet bada dhamaka” scored 61 runs off just 34 balls studded with two maximums and 9 fours. Not many times do we talk about other players when David Warner is also playing in the same match; such was the class on display today by Shaw against LSG. When Prithvi got out, DC’s score was 67-1 and 61 (91 per cent of the team total) runs of those were scored by the Mumbai Ranji captain alone.

Quinton de Kock bosses the run chase for LSG

The Protea wicketkeeper batter was at his fluent best against DC. In the face of what looked like a below par score, Quinton de Kock was going at almost a run a ball till his fellow countryman Anrich Nortje came on to bowl. Quinton punished Nortje for 19 runs with three consecutive fours and a six over deep square leg. QdK went on to score his 18th IPL fifty with a beautiful shot off chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. After spending 13 overs on that sluggish wicket, Quinton was seeing the ball as big as a football as he managed to somehow get some bat onto a 150 kmph beamer from Nortje which surprisingly went for a six over third man.

DC finally managed to dismiss QdK but not before he had done the damage with his blistering knock of 80 runs consisting of 9 fours and 2 sixes.
