Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss today at the M.A Chidambaram stadium and bowled first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). MS hinted towards a 50/50 equation and wasn’t sure about the role of dew on this surface. SRH openers started off decently losing just one wicket inside the power play, scoring 45 runs. As soon as the spinners turned up, MS used all the tricks behind his sleeves and Jadeja responded well picking three wickets in the middle overs. The spinners bowled 10 overs and gave just 62 runs away, picking four wickets. SRH struggled to find their rhythm with the bat and could only manage a modest total of 134 runs in 20 overs, falling victim to Patheerna's shrewd alterations in the latter stages of the game.

CSK openers were nothing short of brilliant, the duo of Ruturaj and Conway put on an 87-run partnership for the 1st wicket. The partnership, which appeared unbeatable the way things were going, ended in a pretty funny run-rout. After the opening partnership, it was just a matter of time before CSK closed in on this low-run scoring chase before Mayank Markande’s googlies played in-road in CSK’s attempt to steal some positive net run rate. Eventually CSK won with eight balls to spare and ensured SRH did not get a single win at the M.A Chidambaram stadium ever in the IPL.

If we say Chennai, it echoes spinners. That’s what exactly happened. A slow sticky wicket and SRH batters surrendered to the slow bowlers of CSK losing four wickets for just 62 runs to the spin bowlers. The ploy of sending Mayank Agarwal in the middle overs to take on the spinners did not work for SRH but was a worthy try. CSK’s field positions and catching were on point today. One of the best spin bowling all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja dominated A spinners paradise. Came into the attack in the eighth over when SRH had just lost one wicket for 55 runs. By the time Jadeja’ finished his spell, SRH were 97-5 at the end of 14 overs. A three-wicket match-winning spell, restricting the batters to free their arms, wicket-to-wicket bowling, and the odd change in pace in between to deceive the batters. Matheesha ‘Malinga’ and Akash ‘Swing’ rise to the occasion

In this age of experienced bowlers, CSK has been hit with injury concerns to their premier opening-bowing combination of Deepak Chahar and Mukesh Choudhary. In their Absence, Akash Singh has been swinging the ball from the left-arm angle to make life difficult for the batters. Behind the wickets, Dhoni’s guidance is like gold dust. Even in today’s game, he suggested, Akash come in from the end the wind was blowing into the right -to help him with his natural in-swing action to the right-handers. The ’one’ and only Conway smashes third consecutive fifty

A mediocre chase and the deadly duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway at the crease. If one takes time, the other covers up. This is exactly what happened. Conway ensured that the chase was always under control with his attacking gameplay of the fast bowlers. Smashing 22 runs off Marco Jansen in the sixth over, Conway changed gears and dominated the SRH bowlers. In the ninth over of the game, Conway raised his bat towards the gallery as he brought his third fifty of the season. Even though a couple of wickets stumbled at the other end, Conway stood tall like a rock to see CSK through to the finishing line with an unbeaten 76 off just 56 deliveries.

Points Table Scenario & What's Next

No changes ‌in the points table as even with this win, CSK stay exactly where they were before this game at number three position with an improved net run rate of +0.355. Sunrisers also stood their place at 9th position. Lucknow super giants will take on Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium at 3:30 PM IST on April 22.
