Brief Scores: AUS 399/6 (Warner 104, Maxwell 106, De Leede 4/74) beat NED 90 (Singh 25, Zampa 4/8) by 309 runs.

Player of the Match: Glenn Maxwell (106 runs off 44 balls).

Australia is set to take on the Netherlands at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 25th in CWC 2023.

In their head-to-head encounters, Australia holds a 2-0 advantage over New Zealand as they enter this match.

Talking point: Smith and Maxwell among the runs the biggest positive

With Warner already in the groove, what the 5-time champions needed was runs from two other big names, Steven Smith and Glen Maxwell. Today’s knock of both these players will put a smile on Cricket Australia as they obtain a huge positive going onto the remaining games of the tournament.

Australia had a record-breaking win against the Netherlands

Batting first, Australian batters started strong, scoring at a rate of more than 6 runs per over. David Warner and Steven Smith's partnership laid the foundation for the big score later. Netherlands made a commendable recovery in the middle overs, taking three wickets in 19 balls. Smith fell to a spectacular catch by van der Merwe moments after taking Warner's catch, which was overturned due to being grounded.

However, Glenn Maxwell's entrance changed the game. At 268/5, with no big hitters left, the total could have been limited to 330, but Maxwell's reverse sweeps dismantled the Dutch bowlers. He capitalised on their predictable bowling, scoring a fifty in 26 balls and a record-breaking hundred in just 40 balls, the fastest in World Cup history.

Logan Van Beek claimed four wickets, while Bas de Leede, who conceded 115 runs, managed two wickets.

Chase was pretty predictable, as it was never really possible for the Netherlands to get that mammoth target. Wickets continued to fall as the batters were succumbing to the pressure.

Adam Zampa picked up 4 wickets, the highest from his team, at an economy of 2.67. Australia won the match by 309 runs.

Warner's early entury sets the stage

In the second over, David Warner demonstrated his readiness for a significant innings. He capitalised on loose deliveries from Aryan Dutt, consistently finding boundaries with well-executed shots and displaying excellent timing and placement. His ability to handle short deliveries and cut them past the fielders made him accumulate four back-to-back boundaries and built momentum for his big knock.

Warner welcomed Singh in the 17th over first, with a magnificent six, as he elegantly lofted a full delivery over long-on. He then followed it up with a classic straight-driven four, reaching his 32nd ODI fifty. Warner's impressive stroke play kept the crowd thoroughly entertained, and his innings continued gaining momentum.

Warner reached his remarkable 22nd ODI century as he pulled a short delivery to long leg in the 38th over. The fielder's fumble allowed it to go for four, and Warner jubilantly removed his helmet, celebrating in his trademark style. He made 104 runs off 93 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes.

Maxwell Outpaces Markram for Fastest WC Century

At the beginning of the second powerplay, Glenn Maxwell made a statement by capitalising on length balls, delivering back-to-back fours against De Leede's bowling. In the 45th over, Glenn Maxwell executed a daring reverse sweep to a slower full ball by Van Meekeren, resulting in a one-bounce four. This was a high-risk shot that showcased Maxwell's exceptional skill in adjusting to the slower pace of the ball. Meekeren next bowled a slower ball, and Maxwell didn't quite middle the shot, but his reputation allowed for some margin, and the ball sailed over the boundary for a six.

He then executed a reverse sweep for a six, which also brought up his 24th ODI fifty. The delivery from de Leede was full and fast, and Maxwell timed the ball impressively well. In the same over, he smashed a record-breaking, full-toss six to secure the fastest-ever World Cup century, surpassing the previous mark by 9 balls. He ended his innings at 106 runs off a mere 44 balls.

Logan Van Beek's Brilliance Amidst Netherlands' Gloom

In an otherwise below-par day for the Men in Orange, Logan’s four-wicket haul is the only positive for them to take away. Due to him, the Dutch team got their first breakthrough in Mitchell Marsh. Marsh attempted a forceful pull but ended up with a top edge. The ball was wide, making it challenging for him to redirect it to the on-side, and the bat face turned in his hands, resulting in a sliced shot that resulted in a top-edge.

He then made Warner depart as Aryan Dutt took a challenging catch at fine leg. Warner, disappointed with his placement, attempted a pick-up pull shot to a shortish delivery down the leg side but could only hit it flat, resulting in an outfield catch.

His other two victims included Maxwell and Mitchell Starc, accomplishing his 4-fer by conceding 74 runs at an economy of 7.40.
