After a four-year hiatus, the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction is back to rock the stage and the 10 franchises are gearing up to bolster their squads by spending millions of dollars this weekend in their quest to rope in the biggest names of the game.
The mega-auction for the 15th edition of IPL is being held at Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13 with British auctioneer Hugh Emandes as the host.

How many players are going under the hammer and what is the total amount left in the purses of franchises?
As many as 600 players will be going under the hammer in the first auction of this magnitude since 2018, which will also see 10 players of the India U-19 team that won the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022.
Originally, 590 cricketers were selected from a total of 1214 players to go under the hammer as opposed to the current total of 600. Of these, 377 are Indian players while 223 make up overseas players. Included in the mix are a total of 229 capped players, 364 uncapped and seven players from Associate teams.
The first day of the two-day mega event will see a minimum of 97 players up for bidding and depending on the time left before the day is called off, the auction will continue for 106 to 116 players. While the first 18 sets (until player 161) will be auctioned the next day.
Teams will have a maximum purse of Rs 90 crore to spend, with all 10 clubs having utilised money for retentions and draft players. Each franchise is required to have a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25 players in their roster before the end of the auction. Each squad can contain a maximum of eight international players.
They must also spend a minimum of INR 67.5 crore (about USD 9 million) of their entire budget of INR 90 crore (USD 12 million approx.)
